(This happened quite a while ago, but it's definitely worth posting.)
It was one of those days.
L o n g, loud, and I was on the verge of losing my sanity from a screaming Chanelle (all four of her canines were coming in) and a defiant Elysse (she seems to go in spurts of defiance, and we were on day three or four of one).
Dave was busy working all day and into the night, so I was on my own, trying to summon any remnant of my patience.
I had asked Elysse to clean the playroom a few times. Lots of times, actually. And I was getting frustrated and cranky that she wasn't doing it. Okay, more than frustrated. Each time I asked her to pick up a toy, she thought playing with it was the better option. And though I knew her 3-year-old mind wasn't capable of it, I felt like she was intentionally pushing me to the limits of my sanity, just for the fun of it. Do you ever feel that way, or is it just me?
Anyway, after the room finally got cleaned up, I said it was bedtime.
As she started walking up the stairs ahead of me, she said without turning around,
"Come on, Ursula."
I can still hear her voice - it sounded like a parent talking to a child, and it was hilarious. Even after all the craziness that day, it was so funny, I just laughed. And replaying it in my mind still makes me laugh.
Let me just say that we had watched The Little Mermaid that day. I'm not sure if that is any credit to me.
Let me also say this: now at the end of those days, I try to think of Ariel. Wouldn't it be funny if instead of nagging Elysse to clean the playroom, I started singing, "Look at this stuff, isn't it neat..."

What a girl! I love how those little minds work.
I think Ursula shows her ugly head around here once in a while... She's scary!
Love this post. And yes, I think I feel like that at some point almost everyday.
"Look at this stuff, isn't it neat...
Do you think it and the garbage should meet?"
I love reading your blog, I feel like we are interacting on a regular basis here.
